When I was in Grade School we had a Foreign Exchange Student from Sweden. She gave me a memory that I will never forget. There was a huge sudden hatching of lightning bugs, and they were out by the bajillions. We were driving home from dinner and it was just getting dark outside. She was staring out the window just absolutely mystified for about 10 minutes. Finally in a very shakey and uncertain voice she asked, "Do you have bugs that make light?" We told her that yes we did, and then went home and caught some. It was like she was 5 years old. Running around, putting them in a jar. I showed her how you could squeeze the light out of them. Now I realize, it is not your age that makes lightening bugs so cool, it is the realization of just how amazing the little bugs are, especially the first time you see them.

I remember seeing them all over the place when I was younger now it seems we only see a few per year.I remember coaxing my nephew who was about 6 at the time to squish the bugs on his teeth so when he smiled we could see him in the dark, but it didn't work out that way,but it sure was funny watching him gag.[:D][:D][:D]
